opening hours at banks are 9.30am-3.30pm Monday to Friday, but
most branches close at 4.30pm. Cash can be obtained at any time
from ATMs outside most banks, which you'll also find in some major
tube and train stations.
Exchange and commission rates vary considerably so it pays to
shop around and even bargain where necessary.. Commission is
sometimes charged for cashing travelers' cheques in foreign
currencies, but not for sterling travelers' cheques, provided you
cash the cheques at a bank affiliated to the issuing bank (get a
list when you buy your cheques). Commission is charged if you
change cash into another currency. You always need identification,
such as a passport, when exchanging travelers' cheques.
